Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana

Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana is a scheme introduced by the Government of India in 2015 by honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Basically, it is implemented in two schemes viz. PM Awas Gramin Yojana and PM Awas Urban Yojana. There has been a large expansion in Rural and Urban housing development schemes, still there is a greater number of poor people, or people with low income who could not afford to buy a new home whether in a village or in a city. The government of India aims at delivering 20 Million urban poor people to give home by 2022. Previously, both schemes were known as Housing for All and Indira Awas Yojana respectively.

In Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, till date the government has approved more than 39 Lakh houses in urban areas and completed the construction of 5 million rural houses as on March 2018 and By March 2019, about 10 million rural houses.

Different participation’s are given as an option to develop Housing societies. Such as…

  • Slum rehabilitation with participation of private developers using land as a resource.
  • Affordable housing in partnership with public and private sectors.
  • subsidy for beneficiary led house construction or Redevelopment/ Enhancement.
  • Promotion of affordable housing for weaker sections through credit linked subsidy.

Eligibility Criteria for Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY)

  • Economically weaker sections (Income up to 3 lakhs a year)
  • Lower income groups (LIG) (Income 3.01 to 6 lakhs)
  • Middle income groups (MIG) (Income 6.01 to 12 lakhs) & (12.01 lakhs to 18 lakhs)
  • Minorities
  • Women

It is compulsory for a female to be a property owner and also, the owner should not own a pucca property anywhere else while applying for this scheme.

Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin

Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin is another scheme which is implemented especially for the Rural and Remote areas of the countries. The difference in Urban and Gramin scheme is, in the Urban scheme anybody can apply who are eligible for the scheme. Whereas in the Rural scheme selection is made through a very transparent process by using Socio-Economic Cast census (SECC-2011) i.e. beneficiaries will be identified with above mentioned census. The funds allocated will be directly transferred through direct transfer process. For further information anybody can visit the official website. (

HOW TO APPLY FOR Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Online Application Form (URBAN) 

The Ministry of Housing and Urban Development has implemented a very simple and customer friendly process in which the beneficiary can directly go to Common Service Centres (CSC) situated in the particular area. Just by giving minimal charges of Rupees 25/-  CSC will give them an application form. While going for the submission of the form, beneficiaries must bring the Aadhar card and a passport size photograph to submit.

  • Click on the option CITIZEN ASSESMENT on the top right maroon coloured bar and select one of the first two options i.e. “For slum dwellers” and “Benefit under other 3 components”.

  • Enter Aadhar card details.

  • This will redirect you to the application form page. You will have to fill up the form accurately. The details will be contact number, email id, other personal details, bank details, income details and other details.

PMAY Online Application Form

  • Once you complete the filling form process, the captcha image will appear at the bottom of the page. Please agree to the terms and conditions, enter what is written on the image and then click save button.

How to check the status of your PM Awas Yojana application

  • Click on the option CITIZEN ASSESMENT on the top right maroon coloured bar and click on ‘Track Your Assessment Status’.

  • It can be done by two options i.e. either by entering your application number or by entering your personal details.



  • Follow the steps up to step 2 as mentioned above. Then, following will be shown on the screen. Enter your assessment id and mobile number.

  • Or if you have forgotten your assessment id please select the other option of entering personal details like Father’s name, state name, city name and mobile number.

  • Anybody can take the print out of the application from the page or future reference.
