The Himachal government has started the mountain stream scheme to supply irrigation through the restoration of the depleting water sources and therefore the flow irrigation project within the sloping fields. In these ten forest divisions Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Jogindernagar, Nachan, Parvati, Nurpur, Rajgarh, Nalagarh, Theog, and Dalhousie, the mountain stream scheme 2021 has been started as a pilot program.

Under the scheme, in addition to cleaning and maintaining the ponds in several places, new ponds, contour trenches, dams are going to be constructed and under the MNREGA, construction of check dams and wall works are included to regulate erosion.

Within the year 2020-21, the Forest Department has spent Rs 2.76 crore under the scheme, which incorporates 110 large and little ponds, 600 different check dams and construction of walls, 12 thousand contour trenches with plantations.
